Not a problem with the library; but the default gem repository seems to have a pretty old version.

I am also having trouble installing the 0.0.4 gem from the home page, albeit I am using Ruby 1.8.2 not 1.8.3: 

$ gem install Ruby-MemCache-0.0.4.gem 
Attempting local installation of 'Ruby-MemCache-0.0.4.gem'
ERROR:  Error installing gem Ruby-MemCache-0.0.4.gem[.gem]: parse error on line 0, col 31: `!ruby/object:Gem::Specification '
